Construction Contract Opens for Bid
On Thursday, August 23rd, six contractors were presented an overview of the relocation and building plans for Koza Baptist Church. Their bids are due back no later than September 14th and the ground breaking ceremony is scheduled for Sunday afternoon on September 30th. The new target date of completion is mid-May 2008.
Many hours of detailed discussion and negotiations occurred over the past year-plus, bringing to completion the best plans for the new building. The Architectural Department of Nakamoto Corporation worked extremely well with the Relocation Committee in seeing both the Land Development Plan and Architectural Plans being approved by the Japanese government. Our two primary objectives in selecting the building contractor are cost and confidence. It would be nice to have the same company submitting the lowest bid accompanied and with best performance record.
We have yet to see the sale of our remaining land at the current location. Several investors have expressed interest but have yet to present a negotiable contract. As shared previously, this represents just over a million dollars of money essential for the completion of the new building.
The demolition contract was awarded this past week, coming in nearly sixty thousand dollars below the projected cost. The Prefecture Office met with the contractor at Koza and walked through the basic requirements of returning the land to its original state. The pending “unknown” is the mandatory historical survey to be completed prior to closing any deal with a perspective buyer.
