WHY SERVE AT KOZA?
“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” 1 Peter 4:10 (ESV)
FIND AND USE YOUR GIFT
Followers of Jesus are furnished with a spiritual gift to build up, encourage, and comfort the church.
So with yourselves, since you are eager for manifestations of the Spirit, strive to excel in building up the church. 1 Corinthians 14:12 (ESV)
God intends for each Christian who attends Koza to use their spiritual gift in the church to build up our body. God has promised to not only give you an ability to contribute to this family in a way that only you can, but also to provide you all the strength you need to do so. But to experience that, you must serve.
FUEL YOUR JOY
When we ask you to serve at Koza, it’s not because “We’re a family and everyone does the chores.” At Koza, we serve because serving others in light of the gospel is fuel for your joy. Don’t believe the lie that if you enjoy what you’re doing, if it’s energizing, and if you feel better afterwards, it doesn’t count as serving. That idea is totally opposed to gospel-centered service.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1–2 (ESV)
When you serve others out of the love, acceptance, and the promise of reward you've received from Christ, you may not feel like you're sacrificing anything—instead you actually gain joy in meeting the needs of others.
BECOME LIKE JESUS
We also ask you to serve because you can only spiritually mature by using your gifts to serve others. You cannot become like Jesus unless you first learn to be a servant. For Koza, filling volunteer spots not the main objective, it’s about discipling and developing you as a follower of Jesus.
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:34–35 (ESV)
Koza fully intends to equip you to do the work of the ministry you are called to do.
to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God… we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love. Ephesians 4:12&16 (ESV)
We’re not asking because we need you to serve, but because you need to serve.
